Crocodile Pictures

This is all about crocodiles, that ancient fearful reptile! Our goal is for people to post their experiences, pictures, stories, sites, favorite ideas and thoughts about crocodiles. To start it all off, I would like to let everyone know of a great site I came across. Africa Pictures has brilliant free crocodile pictures available for web use! So if you are creating a blog or website, and you need some crocodile pictures, you should definitely have a look. Please let us know of any other good sites about crocodiles that you come across.

One of the reasons that crocodiles fascinate me is there mysteriousness. It is as though they are from a different time period. Then again they do live to about 90 years old! Just look at a crocodile and you will see that it is an oddity. They have incredibly thick scales. The scales are so thick on a crocodiles back that a rifle bullet will not penetrate it. The best place to shoot a crocodile would be on its side or on its belly. Then again, when a crocodile is attacking you, you’re not going to get shot in at its belly!

Although crocodiles seem to be very docile and lazy animals, do not for one minute think that they are unaware of what is going on. Be extremely wary when taking crocodile pictures. There is one particular rule that you should always obey. As you approach the water, a crocodile will notice you before you notice it. If it hasn’t eaten and considers you as prey, it will silently sneak into the water. There it will watch and wait for you to come down to the water’s edge. If you stand around there, it will dart out and drag you into the water. If you escape with your life, you will be lucky. You will have scars to show your bravery, if you escape. If you are taking crocodile pictures, do not hang around the water’s edge. Even if you can see the crocodile, there is often another crocodile that you haven’t spotted. If you have to go near the water’s edge, be sure that there is a steep incline. Crocodile love to attack on shallow inclines.

Good crocodile pictures are a rare thing. They are hard to come by. To take crocodile pictures you will need a good telephoto lens. During the day when the lighting is worst for crocodile pictures, that is when the crocodiles are normally on land. In the mornings and evenings, crocodiles are often in the water. The best way that I have found to take good crocodile pictures is by being on boat. Crocodiles are also a lot more relaxed when you are on a boat.

Those are a few tips that I have learnt over the years on how to take good crocodile pictures. Mostly they are safety tips. Otherwise standard photographic techniques work. If ever you have the chance to view a crocodile on foot, take it. I have watched three crocodiles fighting over a carcass 3m from me on foot! It was incredible. A rare life experience that I savour. If you have any crocodile stories, facts, tips, or any good crocodile pictures, please add them. We would like to make this an incredible resource on crocodiles, so please use the social bookmark tool below. That would be greatly appreciated.
